Pharmacology

Pharmacology is the branch of medicine concerned with the mode of action, effects and uses of drugs. More specifically, it is the study of substances that interact with living systems through chemical processes, by binding to regulatory molecules and activating or inhibiting normal body processes. Two important and interrelated areas are: pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

Pharmacokinetics refers to movement of the drug in and alteration of the drug by the body(ADME); includes absorption, distribution, biotransformation and excretion of the drug. Pharmacodynamics includes physiological and biochemical effects of drugs and their mechanism of action.

The course covers all the important aspects of drug action. Knowledge of pharmacology is essential for dental students for its safe application in the clinical environment. Our campus provides a well-equipped laboratory facilities and supporting faculties for making a strong effort to mould our young graduates a more significant contribution to patient care.
